Evaulating My Work

What would i have done if i could change anything about my project?:

Knowing how long and frustrating our idea was, i would have picked a much simpler task. Our idea was too much for the time given, but we managed to get it done. Also i would have planned a lot more and in more detail, so i get a definate idea of what i was doing each lesson, It could have saved a lot of time.

How do i feel i have done in the project?:

I think the outcome of what me and Jahmal did was good, and am pleased with how i have worked. My weakness was updating the blog. I should have done it more regularly. Other than that i think we did very well in the time given

Friday 11th lesson

I came back after two days and Jahmal showed me what he has done. He has taken pictures of all the annimation, and put them onto the computer ready for editing. We then did the editing throughout the day. It was quite a difficult process as there were alot of problems like lighting difference in some pictures, and shadows. We found a solution to most of these problems and finished. We were pleased with finished piece.

Monday 7th lesson

I still carried on drawing mine and Jahmals annimation.

Friday 4th lesson

In todays lesson i got stuck in and drew mine and Jahmals annimation throughout the day.

Tuesday 8th lesson

Todays lesson I finished drawing all of the annimation. I will be absent on the 9th and 10th, during this time jahmal will be taking pictures of the annimation and go onto editing.

Thursday 3rd lesson

In todays lesson me and Jahmal drew our story board, and then because we had enough time Jahmal started the actual annimation. Jamhal did about 30 pages of the scrap book. He drew the title zooming in, and spinning out of shot again. We wanted to do this to give it a cartoony effect. In tomorows lesson at coleridge we will continue with the drawing in the scrapbook.

This was the era of experimentation and, where techniques were created and refined... cartoonists  attempted to adapt their pen and ink creations to the moving screen, and most of them succeeded."

Wednesday 2nd lesson

In todays lesson we started our 2nd checkpoint in our sketchbooks. I have to say if i have acomplished my actions plan from checkpoint 1. We also filled in a rescource requirement form. This is writing down technical equipment like mac laptop/mac desktop, tripod, camera, computer softyware etc. Also art equipment like scap book, pencils, pens, masking tape etc. And miscellaneous for example picture refrences.

We also filled in our plan for the following lessons, and what we are going to do in them.

Tuesday 1st lesson

In Tuesdays lesson we looked at someone else's  blog in the class and feedback their work. We were looking for two strengths and two things to improved on. I looked at Sven's sketchbook and thought there were a lot of strengths, like good use of photos and videos which makes it look interesting. Also use of references,  this is good practice for future projects.
Somethings I thought he could improve on was to add more pictures for the lesson evaluations, and of sketchbook work.

Monday 30th lesson

In todays lesson I looked at what we needed to complete on our blogs, sketchbook etc. Then I started working on the unfinished or any missing work. I still have some things i need to finish in my sketchbook, and on the blog for example an artist that i like. I will do these in the week

Feedback for your blog

My blog was looked at by Sven. He wrote two strengths about my blog, and two things I need to improve on.

Strengths:
                   - Detailed post about animation
                   - Good use of pictures, and good explanations of them

Improvements:
                   - Checkpoint is missing, and more posts can be added
                   - Can be longer evaluations of the lesson

I will take these points and use them to improve my blog.

Experimental and underground

This is 'The Big Shave' also known as 'Viet 67' directed by Martin Scorsese. This is a very graphic video as there is lots of blood, which can be seen as disturbing, but to others humourous. The idea behind this film was to show people the self-destructive involvement of the US in the Vietnam War. The film was produced at New York University's Tisch School of the arts.

Friday 27th lesson

Todays lesson started by the class looking at somebody elses sketchbook, and to fill in a review sheet to see what they have done. Concentraiting on research and refrence, colour, text, checkpoint planning etc. I need to do alot more work in my sketchbook like annotating, add colour to make it look more creative. After that we continued where we left off on thursday with our annomation. We projected the drawing photos onto cardboard and drew around them. When we did them all we went out looking for somewhere to take the pictures. We chose the carpet because it was blue and looks like water. The jellyfish goes up a wall and we did this to add humour. I have enjoyed the past few lessons, because they have been alot more arty and hands on.

Thursday 26th lesson

In todays lesson we started of by watching steves stop motion animation demonstration. He had 5 pieces of card which he has painted an alien character onto. Each piece of card has a different movement of the alien, and when all put together the alien jumps. Me and Jahmal worked together. We drew some ideas down in our sketchbooks, then took the best idea and extend on it. Here are our drawings.

Wednesday 25th lesson

Today i was finishing my animation to get ready to take photos. Then we discussed what the next stages of the project was and talking about a sketchbook checkpoint. This is where we look at what weve done in the first week of the project, and to show the evidence.

Tuesday 24th lesson

In tuesdays lesson we started of by watching some abstract, and underground video clips. We where asked to write down any thing we thought about them. I thought most of them were boring but 'the big shave' and 'fuzzbox' were funny. We then chose two of the films and researched them. We were looking for the directors, date it was made, and anything else intersting about them.

Later in the day we were asked to get into pairs and start our new project. The project is to produce a 1 minute video about risk. Im working with jahmal, and we started to think of ideas. We wrote down any ideas we had, and then chose the most appropriate. Weve decided to draw an animation. The animation is going to be a man on a unicycle going along a tightrope, and a pigeon hits him when he reaches the end. We wanted to do this because we wanted humour.

The last task of the day was to go down to the learning resource centre and pick a book that would help/is similar to our idea. What our task was to practice refrencing books. We had to find the author, date, name, page etc.

Monday 23rd lesson

In mondays lesson we continued with working on our stop motion animation. When we finish we will take individual photographs of each picture and upload them onto the macs. Then we can adjust lighting, and if we want to make them slower etc.

Friday 20th lesson

In Fridays lesson we discussed things that can be related to risk, and then was asked to work in small groups and put together a mood board about risk. Iworked with rob, and max and we got pictures of parkour free running, extreme ironing, rock climbing etc. These all contain risk because there is a risk of injury.

Thursday 19th lesson

Today we started working on animation. We did the task of making a bouncing ball flickbook. This is the first thing people do when introduced to animation. We drew arc shapes on a post it note to be our guide line of where the ball would be bouncing. We then put that under another post, and could see the line underneath (this is called onion skinning). We then drew the first ball shape accordingly to our guideline. When the ball would be at the top of an arc the ball would be circle and they would be bunched together to give the impression of slowing down. When the ball would be falling we would space them apart and make them more oval shape to give the impression of speed. I was pleased with how mine looked.

We then went on to looking at stop motion animation. This is where for example you build a man made of clay. You take a picture, then you move his arm a little bit up and take another picture. Then move it a little bit more, and take another picture. If you carry on doing this you end up with the man raising his arm. We looked at the work of BLU. BLU is a graffiti artist and uses buildings and the surroundings as his backround. He paints an area white, and then paints his idea on to that, and then paints over in white and does it all again. This is a very long process. Here is the video of his work that we looked at:

We have been given a paper pad to come up with our own idea for a ten second video of stop motion animation. For ten seconds of film we need to draw around 80-120 pages. We will then take pictures of them all and put them all together.

An artist In or that can relate to beautiful losers

The artist i have chose is Banksy. He was not in beautiful losers but seeing the style of art in and the risks from people that were, it reminded me of him.

About Banksy: Banksy was born in Bristol in either 1974 or 1975. His birth name is unknown. He trained as a butcher, but became involved in graffiti in the late 80's during the great Bristol aerosol boom. His art concentrated on politics, culture, and ethics.
I got this information from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banksy

His Art:

These are two of my favourite pieces of art from Banksy. I like them because the first one is involved in the street surroundings (joint to the yellow lines), and the second because its different. Hes holding flowers instead of a bomb. This is the sort of art i am interested in.

Review Of Beautiful Losers

We watched beautiful losers in class and i thought it was good. It is about a group of artists who tell us there views and there experiences as an artist. I thought it was interesting to see what they think of the world, and how the art industry and just basic living has changed since there youth. I took a particular interest in the artists work as i like art that is surreal.
